Christmas in Las Vegas

December 19, 2007

I often wonder what Christmas in Las Vegas would be like - I mean we all know how the city likes to party at such events as New Year, Superbowl and Fight Nights, but Christmas just seems a bit of a weird time to spend in the great city.

Last time I visited I took the time to ask a few people what it is like and what I heard was quite surprising. The build up in the few weeks before is a great time to visit, with shopping for gifts a prime activity, and also of course the hope of a big win to make the big day that much better.

Christmas day is different though - with most visitors being either locals or non-US, mostly non-English speakers. Of course this doesn’t mean Las Vegas lets it’s reputation as the most over the top city in the world slip, Christmas trees in each Casino battle each other to be the biggest and most decorated and employees are dressed up with plenty of Christmas cheer to entertain the visitors. Also the shows are often run with a Christmas theme.

To be honest I’m not sure I want to visit Las Vegas at Christmas, although one day I might just have to give it a try.
